The Co-op is involved in several programs for Youth including the Youth to Washington program (high school sophomores & juniors), Electricity School (ages 8-18), and the IEC Memorial Scholarship program (high school seniors). For more information on each of these programs, see below:

Electricity School

4-H Electricity School will be held June 18 at Bailey Park in Camp Point, Illinois.

Electricity School is open to all youth, ages 8-18, not just 4-H members. There is no charge for the event but students must pre-register to be eligible.

The 4-H Electricity School schedule will be:

8:30-9:00am Registration
9:00am Welcome & Game Show
9:30am Power Town Safety Demonstration
10:00am-11:30am Workshops (Students will be divided into workshops based on their experience and previous attendance. If this is their first year, they'll make an extension cord. If they attended last year, they'll make a soda can lamp...and so on.) Five levels of hands-on activities will be offered.

Level 1 - Extension Cord
Level 2 - Soda Can Lamp
Level 3 - Circuits/Switches

Level 4 - Tour
Level 5 - Basic Electronics

A Registration and Youth Health Form must be completed to attend. This event is sponsored by Adams Electric Cooperative, AmerenCIPS and University of Illinois Extension Adams/Brown Unit.

Interested in the 2009 Youth Tour?
Students who will be sophomores or juniors during the '08-'09 school year are eligible to apply for the 2009 Youth Tour. You do not have to be a member of Adams Electric Cooperative to apply but you should reside in Adams, Brown, Schuyler, Hancock, McDonough, Fulton or Pike county in Illinois. If you're interested in applying for next year's contest, give us your name and mailing address and we'll add you to our mailing list when applications become available.

If you live outside of our area, check with your area's closest electric or telephone cooperative for information. Many Cooperatives across the United States are involved in the same program. Rules and guidelines may differ.

IEC Memorial Scholarship

Information on the 2009 IEC Memorial Scholarship program will be available in October or November 2008. Students who will be high school seniors in '08-'09 are eligible. If you're interested, let us know and we'll add you to our mailing list for the 2009 scholarship. Students must be the son or daughter of a member of Adams Electric Cooperative to apply.
